Congestion: when and where you lose time

How the numbers are built

For every clean drive between two stops, DeweyIQ compares the time it actually took against a free-flow estimate for the same distance. Those ratios are grouped by day of week and hour of day in your local time, and the middle value of each group becomes that slot's multiplier. 1.00× means the estimate was right. 1.40× means drives in that slot really take 40% longer.

Reading the grid

Rows are days, columns are hours. Color is how much slower — teal at free-flow through amber to red. Block size is how many trips are behind that slot: a small dot is a handful of drives, a full block is a slot you can plan around. That's deliberate, so four trips can never look like four hundred.

Trip counts are on everything

Every figure on this tab is labelled thin, fair, or solid alongside its trip count. Thin means fewer than five drives — interesting, not reliable. Fair is five to eleven. Solid is twelve or more. Slots with fewer than three drives are left out of the ranked lists entirely.

Worst times to be driving

Ranked by minutes lost on a typical drive, not by the multiplier. A 2× multiplier on a four-minute hop costs you four minutes and isn't worth rescheduling around; 1.3× on a half-hour cross-town run costs you nine minutes every single time.

Corridors that cost you

Area to area, in the direction driven — the run out at 4pm is not the same drive as the run back at 7am, so the two are ranked separately. Areas come from each customer's city, falling back to their route name. A drive missing an area on either end is left out rather than lumped into an 'unknown' bucket that would out-rank real corridors.

What DeweyIQ does with it

Route optimization uses these multipliers to estimate drive time on the right day and hour instead of applying one flat number. It never reorders a route by itself — an optimization is still a preview you approve.
